Day 30 – Wings Unfolded

Although I have finished my NaNoWriMo journey and my 50,000 words, my book is not complete. I figure this chapter plus one more should do it. Then I can begin the editing process and hopefully have it published soon. Enjoy:

Chapter 31

“What’s the plan for today?” North asked Talon over breakfast. North and Moon have been staying with them ever since the battle with the cougars and Star had no intention of asking them to leave. She thought it was nice having the additional company around, besides the house was plenty big enough for all of them. When she wanted to be alone with Talon, they just retreated to her suite. Her master suite was larger than most homes and provided them many comforts. What she didn’t realize was that Talon disagreed with her and didn’t want Moon staying with them. He knew she was trouble and was always afraid of what would happen next. If he got a chance later today, he would ask her to move out.

“I have to go back to the hospital zone and finish healing the wounded,” Star said buttering a piece of toast.

“I’m going back to the cave-in to make sure it’s stable. Torn will be there to help, anyone else want to come along?” Talon asked.

“Count me in,” North said rinsing off his empty plate and putting it in the dishwasher. He wasn’t used to having modern conveniences and was happy to stay as long as they let him.

“Me too,” Moon said. “Here’s an orange Star. It will help keep up your energy,” Moon said as she handed it to her.

“Thanks, I need all the help I can get right now,” Star said.

Afraid to use the elevator the group headed down the spiral staircase to the main level. “I’m going to the hospital zone with Star, then I’ll meet you guys at the cave-in,” Talon said as they flew off the ledge.

Gener was waiting to greet them at the hospital zone when they landed. “Good morning,” he said as he approached them. “I must say, you look much better after a good night sleep,” he said shaking their hands.

“Thanks, I feel better. How many wounded are still here?” Star asked as she looked around the area.

“The three you had helped yesterday before you left, of course, and about 10 more with various injuries. We sent everyone home that were either healed or had minor injuries. If they don’t, heal by themselves, they will call upon you at your home.”

“Good, where do you want me to start?” Star asked.

“I think with the last three victims. They are the worst,” Gener said.

“I guess you have your work cut out for you here. I’ll see you at home when we are done tonight,” Talon said giving her a kiss. He knew what they had to do to fix the cave-in area and it wasn’t going to be an easy task. They would have to rely heavily on Torn’s super human strength.

He left Star and joined a group of helpers at the cave-in site. They were already discussing how to stabilize the area when he landed beside them. “I think we have to make sure there are no openings at the top. The last thing we need is a flood the next time it rains,” Torn said.

“I agree,” Talon said. “But how do we support this area so it doesn’t completely cave-in?”

“What if we fill it in,” one of the helpers suggested.

“With what?” Torn asked.

“Rocks, I’m sure you can find us some,” the helper replied.

“If we do that, then we would have to make sure it was sealed properly. That could take us weeks,” Talon said.

“Maybe not, I know where there are several elevators we can use. They’ll help cut our time in half,” the helper said.

“Where’s that?” Talon asked.

“In the empty warehouse in town. It used to be a parcel depot. They shut it down in a few years back during the last recession. Everything is still inside. If we put them end to end, we could move a lot of dirt fast. I’m sure there are generators at the ranches we could borrow,” he said scanning the faces in front of him.

“I can drive the transport if about 10 people can help lift them into the trailer,” another helper said.

“I’ll go, I can probably lift them by myself,” Torn said.

“Great idea, why don’t you two head out now. Moon take someone with you and find as many generators as you can,” Talon said. “Make sure when you bring them back you set them on the stable part of the Mesa. Take Crystal with you, she will be able to use her X-ray vision to direct you to a safe area.”

“We are going to need shovels and wheelbarrows,” Talon said. A few people volunteered to retrieve them. “Can anyone think of anything else we need?” he asked.

“Ya, I think we need Red, he can create water. We should also get Soron because he can dry whatever we make with his breath,” Cloud said.

“Okay, can you go get them?” Talon asked.

“Sure,” Cloud replied.

“One last thing I think we’ll need is straw,” Talon surmised.

“We’ll get some straw and met you up top,” a helper suggested looking for approval from his friend. When he nodded in agreement, they left to get straw from the surrounding ranches.

It was difficult trying to figure out what abilities would help them the most. So far Talon was doing an excellent job of organizing the volunteers. The few volunteers that remained made their way to the top of the mesa. Talon helped to direct traffic as items arrived. From on top of the mesa, Talon could see the transport truck quickly approaching. He figured that Torn could lift the elevators to the top without any help from them.

“Where would you like this?” Torn asked holding one of the elevators as if it only weighed a couple of pounds.

Crystal surveyed the ground with her x-ray vision. “Place the first one here.” Torn sat it easily down into position. There were six more still in the trailer. He quickly lifted each one putting them together in a line to form one long elevator.

Torn and Talon went back inside to make sure the entrance to the cave-in was filled in as much as possible. Torn was able to move the boulders into position. He placed the last one then stepped back as a group of builders spread a thick layer of stucco over it to help seal it. “That should do it,” he said.

“I hope so,” Talon said as they lifted off the edge and flew to the top of the mesa.

Volunteers started the generators and plugged in the elevators. Everyone cheered as they began rotating. Shovels were handed to each person. Talon noticed there were ten left over. “Moon, can you duplicate so we can use every shovel we have?”

Moon duplicated herself until there were the same amount of people for every shovel. They worked as fast as they could in the hot sun shovel full after shovel full made its way along the elevator into the opening below.

Crystal noticed a group of children playing with a parachute. They always enjoyed raising it into the air and then climbing under just to raise it again. Crystal flew down to them and asked them to fly with it above the mesa to provide them some shade. She knew they couldn’t do it all day, but if they took turns it will give them a break from the sun for a while.

She returned to her area and began shoveling as the kids maneuvered the parachute into position. She waved at them when it provided enough shade for everyone.

The volunteers noticed the difference right away as soon as they were shaded from the sun. They all took a second to wave to the children.

The children continued to circle holding the parachute in their hands. As one would get tired, another one took their place. They were able to keep the parachute in position for an hour. Slowly they lowered to the ground. “Thanks for your help,” Talon shouted out. “Can you come back after lunch and do it again?” he asked.

“Sure we’ll bring more help,” the tallest child in the group said. They all thought it was fun and were glad that they could build their strength for festival night which was fast approaching in two days.

Talon stopped to check the opening. Torn was there to move the elevator to the areas that needed to be filled in the most. “How are we doing?” Talon asked.

“I think that’s just about it,” Torn said changing the position of the elevator.

Once Talon saw the red dirt overflow the opening he raised this hand to his mouth, inserted two fingers and let out a loud whistle. Everyone turned to see what he wanted. They both waved their hands and yelled out, “no more.”

“Crystal I need you to check and make sure there aren’t any large openings,” Talon said as he approached her.

They both walked to the area at the end of the elevator. Carefully she scanned the ground and surrounding area. “Looks good to me,” she said wiping the sweat from her forehead.

“I think it would be a good idea for us to take a break inside out of the sun. We can have something to eat and drink and met back here in a half an hour,” Talon said. He watched as each person sat down their shovels and flew away. He was the last person back inside the cave. The cave always maintained a constant temperature sheltered from the hot sun and all types of weather.

The first place Talon went was to the hospital zone. He sat down beside Star, who was eating a sandwich. “Hi,” he said watching her carefully.

“Hi how’s everything going at the cave-in?” she asked him taking another bite.

“Good we have filled it in. A group has sealed in on the inside with the first coat and we are going to start sealing it on top after we take a break,” he said reaching for a sandwich.

Star could see he was covered in sweat. His shirt was soaking wet. “Here drink this,” she said handing him a glass of orange juice.

“How much longer do you think you’ll be here?” Talon asked her.

“I only have a few more people left. Two have broken arms and the third has a concussion. The worst ones have been healed. Then I told them I would help them clean up,” she said looking at the mess in front of her.

“Take your time,” Talon said not wanting her to over do it. “I think we’ll be about another two hours,” Talon said taking another drink of juice.

“I thought it would take you weeks to fix it,” Star said.

“Normally it would, but we used everyone’s abilities to hurry up the process,” Talon said as he stood up.

“Good thinking.”

“I better go, we need to get this done. See you later,” he said.

Talon made his way out of the cave and back to the top of the Mesa. He watched as the volunteers returned, landing near him. “It’s time to make the coating of stucco. Fill your wheelbarrows with a third of the way with dirt. Put your arm up when you’re done and Red will give you the proper amount of water,” Talon said as he walked, weaving his way among the different stations. “There is straw at each station to put into the mix. Mix it all up and when your done Torn will carry it away and dump them. Soron will then use his ability to dry the stucco. I”ll let you know when were done. Any questions?” Talon asked.

The directions were clear. Everyone began making their mixture. Hands were raised when they needed water. Talon made his way to Moon’s station. She had duplicated herself so she wouldn’t have to pair up with another volunteer. Her partner was an exact replica of herself. Talon stood between the two Moon’s not sure which one was the real one. “I think it’s time you decided to move out,” Talon said in a quiet voice so no one else could hear.

“I’m staying with my sister, I think it’s time you move out,” she said glaring at him. “Maybe I should ask Star what she wants.”

“Star’s not capable of making those kinds of decisions right now. Not until she’s stronger,” he said.

“Good then I’m staying until then,” Moon said lifting another shovel full of dirt into the wheelbarrow.

“No your not, you need to pack up your things and move out today,” he said. His face got redder the more they talked.

“By the way, I would like to know how come you were working outside the colony. Star told me you were working as a janitor when you rescued her. You know that’s not allowed.”

“That’s none of your business,” Talon said.

“I should report you to the elders,” Moon said with a smirk on her face. Finally, she had some dirt to hold over his head.

“Keep your voice down,” Talon said looking around to see if anyone heard her.

Day 24 – Wings Unfolded

Six more days to go for NaNoWriMo. I wrote 1,904 words today giving me a total of  42,198 for the month of November. Shh! Don’t tell, but I think I might get drunk after this. I need to let my brain slow down. Here’s the next exciting chapter, enjoy:

Chapter 25

It was as if the cougars knew Star was healing the wounded. They figured the only way to win this battle was to remove the healer and continue the fight.

“Why aren’t they backing down?” Talon asked. With all the commotion and noise, he never heard Star’s cries for help.

“They should have by now, they are all wounded in some way,” Kev replied.

Talon didn’t see the cougar that circled behind him. With a single bound, the cougar knocked Talon down face first into the dirt. The dust stung his eyes, he choked as it entered his lungs. With every ounce of strength he had, he stood up as the cougar continued to nip at his limbs. Blood stained his clothing from his wounds. The cougar had bared its long sharp fangs before it lunged again. This time going for the kill. It knocked Talon to the ground with its large paws and gripped him by the neck. It was trying to suffocate him with its bite. Talon was unable to breathe. North bit the cougar’s leg. It winced in pain releasing Talon from its grasp. Raindrops began to fall as North continued to keep the cougar from Talons lifeless body. As the rain increased in intensity, it also increased the stench of the cougars. North lunged towards the cougar grasping its neck within his jaws. With a quick twist, he snapped its neck leaving it in a heap on the bloody battlefield.

“Help!” Star pleaded as the cougar continued to back away dragging Star through the mud. She tried grabbing at the ground, trying to find anything that would slow them down, but there was nothing there. She wasn’t sure why it hadn’t killed her by now, perhaps it was taking her back to their lair as a trophy of sorts. Maybe the cougar thought she could use her power to heal the few that remained. They were definitely outnumbered now and needed all the help they could get to win against these humans. In the past, they never had this much trouble with their kill. This group seemed to have superhuman abilities that they have never seen before. Once their numbers decreased by a staggering amount, the cougars began to retreat.

Moon was still fighting a battle within herself. She struggled whether to save Star or not. If she let her go then perhaps, she could be there to console Talon and she would be the center of his attention. On the other hand, if she saved her maybe they could build a relationship and she would finally have the family she longed for. She had finally made up her mind. She wasn’t sure if it would work or not, but it was worth a try. Moon’s ability was to duplicate. She could create several exact copies of herself confusing their prey and making them think they were outnumbered. She made ten exact copies of herself and advanced toward Star. The cougar lifted its head realizing it would have to battle to keep its trophy. It stopped moving but didn’t release Star. She squirmed, but it only made it worse, its fangs dug dipper into her skin. The pain was unbearable. Moon duplicated again until there twenty of her approaching the cougar. She raised her arms as if to strike and so did each one of them. Realizing he could lose this battle, the cougar dropped Star’s leg and slowly backed away from her body. Once it was several feet away, it turned and ran to catch up with the rest of the pack. Moon bent down and helped Star onto her feet.

“Can you walk?” Moon asked using her body as a crutch.

“Barely,” Star replied.

When they joined the group, Star saw Talons lifeless body. She tried to run to his side but fell to the ground. Her injured leg, unable to bear any weight. She crawled the last few feet towards him. “Talon!” she screamed as if her voice would wake him up and they could all return to the cave. “Oh my God, what have they done,” she said as she reached him. She realized he was still breathing but barely. His blood pressure was fading. His breath, shallow and almost nonexistent. She had to heal him before he dies.

The group worked to move the bodies to safety in case the cougars returned. Two men bent over as if to grab Talons arms and legs. “No!” Star shouted, “let me heal him first he’ll never make it.”

Star bent over Talon searching for the worst part of his injuries. Scraps and tears can wait until after. She needed to bring him back to life before he breathes his last breath. Realizing he had a punctured lung she started there. She placed her hands on his lungs and sent as much of her strength as she could so he would be able to breathe again. Star watched as his chest began rising higher and higher with each breath he took. Next she placed her hands on his heart, it had to pump harder to send blood throughout his body. Colour began to show through his pale skin. Star was running out of strength, but she continued to heal him. Next she would find all the broken bones and heal them one by one. When she finished healing the last one, she collapsed on top of him, she had nothing left. It took everything she had to heal Talon, now she was too weak to even hold her own body up.

Everyone had made it safely back inside the cave including the children. North search through the crowd for Talon and Star. When he couldn’t find them, he returned to the battlefield. He saw them in the distance still laying on the ground. He flew to them as quick as he could. The rain still falling washing away any signs of a battle. The carcasses of the cougars would be removed by other animals once they find out they are there.

North landed beside his friends. Fearing the worst he called out their names, “Talon, Star, can you hear me!” They were both alive he determined after checking for a pulse. “Talon,” he yelled out again. Talon’s eyes fluttered then opened slightly. “Talon, it’s me North,” he said hoping a familiar voice would help. Talon’s eyes opened wider, he noticed Star was lying across him.

“What happened?” he asked

“The last thing I saw Star was healing you. I thought you were dead. It must have taken all her strength to bring you back. I helped get everyone back in the cave and when I couldn’t find you two I came back.”

“The children…?” Talon began to ask.

“There’re all safe at home,” North interrupted him. “The cougars are gone too all except the bodies they left behind.”

“Star, Star,” Talon said gently shaking her. She didn’t respond. Talon rolled Star over onto her back so he could get up. “We need to get her home,” he said scooping her up into his arms.

“Are you strong enough?” North asked.

“I think so, let’s go,” Talon said lifting off the ground. They flew to the cave, North helped Talon get Stars body through the narrow entrance.

“Thanks for helping,” Talon said as he laid Stars body on her bed. He ran some water until it was just the right temperature filling a small bowl. Quickly, he reached for a handful of washcloths and returned to her side. He never noticed North leaving the room. Talon opened the drawer of her nightstand and found a pair of scissors. Cutting as fast as he could without hurting her, he pulled the ripped and blood stained clothing from her body. With a warm soaked cloth, he slowly and gently cleaned her wounds having to change the water several times. When he was finished, he pulled the duvet up to keep her warm.

North returned from the kitchen with two glasses of water. His friend was so intent on Star that he never noticed him.

“Here, drink this,” he said handing him a glass. Talon took one sip and sat it down. He didn’t care about himself only about Star. She has to make it through this. What would he do without her in his life? She meant everything to him now.

Talon leaned over Star kissing her on the forehead and caressing her face with his hand. Tears welled up in his eyes as the fear of losing her grew inside him. North pulled up a chair beside the bed for Talon to sit in.

“Here,” North said, “sit down.”

Talon sat down holding Star’s hand within his trying to send his strength from his body to hers.

The doorbell rang, but Talon didn’t hear it. North went to see who it was. He was shocked when he opened the door to see Moon.

“How’s my sister?” she asked.

“Sister!” North said in a strained voice. Talon’s been keeping a lot of secrets from him lately, he thought.

“Ya, it’s a long story. Can I see her?”

“I don’t think so, I don’t want to upset Talon,” he said as he tried to close the door.

“I don’t care about Talon,” Moon said pushing her way past North and into the house. She quickly climbed the spiral staircase not wanting to waste any time with the elevator. North was right behind her. He grabbed her arm as she Star’s room.

“I can’t let you go in there,” he said.

She ripped her arm from his grasp. “Try and stop me!” she said.

Moon went to the opposite side of the bed from Talon. “How’s she doing?” she asked.

Talon lifted his head, he didn’t have the strength to argue with her this time. “I’m not sure, she’s breathing, but it’s shallow.

Star looked at the bloody water in the bowl beside the bed. “Have you dressed her wounds?” she asked.

“No,” Talon answered.

Star rummaged through the closets until she found clothing she could tear into bandages. She stood at the end of the bed tearing stars shirts into strips. In a strange way, it helped her relieve some of the tension knowing that she was destroying something of his. Next she went to the kitchen, opening each cupboard door until she found the ingredients she needed. Without a healer amongst them Moon had learned a trick or two over the years. She placed the ingredients into the pedestal grinding them into a powder, then mixed them with coconut oil. When she returned to the bedroom, she sat the pedestal down beside the torn shirts and began pulling the duvet back.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Talon demanded reaching for the duvet.

“Healing her,” she said ripping the duvet out of Talons grasp.

Moon worked quickly spreading the salve on her wounds then wrapping the torn strips around her limbs. “There that will help,” she said as she tied the last piece and pulled the duvet back over her. She returned to the kitchen to make some broth for her to drink. It would be important for her to get her strength back.

When she entered the bedroom with the cup of broth Talon looked up at her. His eyes, cold and dark void of any feeling. “Why are you here anyway?” Talon asked.

“I have just as much right to be here as you do. She’s my sister,” Moon said with anger rising up inside her.

Day 19 – Wings Unfolded

9

I’m still alive and kicking on day 19 of NaNoWriMo, okay just barely. For those of you keeping track I’m over 33,000 now. My goal of 50,000 words in 30 days is in sight. Here is Chapter 20, enjoy:

Chapter 20

It was Thursday, everyone in the colony had received a handwritten note yesterday that read:

The Elder Council cordially invites you to join us in welcoming healer Star Ward to our colony. The reception will be held on the first level of the healers home from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m.

Star rode the elevator down to the first floor. When she stepped into the kitchen, Star almost collided with a large tray one of the caterers was carrying. “Oops, sorry,” she said ducking out of the way. She looked around and counted at least twenty people all frantically working in the kitchen.

When Gener noticed her, he motioned for her to join him. “Hi, let’s move into the reception area it’s too loud in here.” They made their way through the crowded kitchen. “Much better,” he said after closing the door. There was still commotion but not as much. Star watched as they set up small round bar height tables for groups to gather for conversation and have somewhere to set their drink down.

Gener walked over to the door and picked up a  rectangular shaped box from the floor. “The council didn’t think you would have anything appropriate to wear, so I hope you don’t mind this gift,” he said reaching out the box.

Star sat the box on a nearby table and lifted the top. She gasped as she pulled the evening gown from the box and held it against her, not sure if she was dreaming. “It’s beautiful,” she said. The purple gown with delicate white brocade flowers seemed to sparkle in the light as she twirled in circles making sure it didn’t touch the floor. “Tell them I said thank you.”

“You can do that yourself tonight,” he said. Gener had to return to the kitchen to ensure everything was perfect.

Star made her way up the spiral staircase to the second floor with the gown neatly tucked back into the box.

“What’s that,” Talon asked from the couch.

“It’s an evening gown,” Star said pulling it from the box to show him.

“Where did you get that?”

“It was a gift from the elders,” she said admiring the gown.

“That reminds me, I better get my tux out,” Talon said heading towards his room.

Star took the gown to her suite and hung it on the back of the door. Checking her watch, she figured she had plenty of time to pamper herself first. She walked into the oversized washroom and turned on the taps of the soaker tub. Her clothes hit the floor as she took them off one by one in front of the full-length mirror. There they were fully exposed, the scars she could never escape from her childhood. They covered 60% of her body. The foster families always made sure they never left anything visible that others could see. They were mostly in areas that could be hidden underneath her clothing. Star was always careful never to wear anything too revealing. The last thing she wanted to share with anyone was the horror of her childhood.

She stepped into the tub that was still filling with water and laid down. She turned off the taps and closed her eyes enjoying the peace and quiet.

Talon hadn’t heard a peep from her since she went into her room. He slipped on the jacket of his tux, checking to make sure his bow tie was straight, then knocked on Star’s door. “Are you almost ready,” he called out.

“Just about, I need a hand,” she said.

He opened the door to her room and saw her standing in front of the mirror. She was so beautiful he forgot to breathe. Taking a deep breath, he moved towards her, “what do you need?” he said not able to take his eyes off her.

“I can’t reach the top of the zipper, can you…?” she began to ask.

“Sure,” he said reaching out before she finished her sentence. He slowly slid the zipper to the top of her dress. His eyes met hers in the reflection of the mirror. Talon wanted to kiss her and forget about the party downstairs, but he didn’t want to overstep his boundaries. They had to hurry or they would be late.

“You look beautiful,” he said, “may I escort you to the reception,” he said holding out his right elbow for her.

“I was hoping you would,” she said sliding her arm into his. “You clean up pretty good yourself,” she said as the elevator door closed. Within seconds, they were in the kitchen still full of bustling people.

Gener was standing by the door when they entered the reception area. He smiled at the handsome couple. “Can I have your attention,” he called out to the crowd. Everyone stopped talking and looked in his direction. “I would like to introduce this lovely lady to everyone,” he said pushing his glasses into position. “This is Star Ward, who has recently joined our colony. Please introduce yourself as she mingles with the guests.” The volume rose as everyone resumed their conversations.

Before Star could take one step, people began introducing themselves. “Hi my name is Kit, this is my husband, Madon. We knew you’re parents. Are they here tonight?” she asked.

“No, they passed away when I was five,” Star said. Not sure how I’m going to get through this, she thought, not everyone here knows my past. At least I won’t have to talk about foster care to anyone.

“Sorry to hear that,” Kit said. People began forming a line behind Kit and Madon eager to say hello to the new healer. One of the servers stopped and offered them a glass of wine while other servers walked around with trays of hors d’oeuvres. Star talked with so many people there was no way she would ever remember all their names.

“I need to take a bathroom break,” Star whispered to Talon handing him her empty glass of wine.

“I’ll try and hold down the fort, but I think it’s you they want to see, not me,” he said laughing.

“I’ll be right back,” she said to the couple next in line and slipped into the kitchen.

She took the elevator to the second floor. Star didn’t want to use the main washroom in case she was caught in a conversation and couldn’t make her way back to Talon. When she stepped out of the elevator, she noticed Moon standing by the crib in the children’s playroom. “Guests aren’t allowed in this area,” she said in a cool tone.

“I should have grown up here,” Moon said tears welling in her eyes.

“Neither of us did, and I would appreciate it if you would leave,” Star said becoming annoyed.

“At least you got to grow up with her,” Moon said clutching the teddy bear.

“For your information, my parents died when I was five. I never grew up with them either. Maybe if you stopped throwing a pitty party for yourself, you’d have more friends,” Star said as her blood pressure began to rise.

“How dare you,” Moon said throwing her glass of red wine at Star.

Star screamed. Talon heard it from the main floor and rushed up the spiral staircase. He grabbed Moon’s arm and ushered her quickly to the top of the stairs. Get out now before I push you down!” he yelled full of hatred.

Moon realizing it was time, left the party.

“It’s ruined,” Star said tears streaming down her face.

“I’ll fix it,” Talon said looking around for a pair of scissors.

“How, I can’t go downstairs like this.”

“Here they are,” Talon said holding up the scissors like he had just won a trophy. “Stand still.” Talon carefully cut the dress on an angle completely removing the stained area. “There,” he said when he was done, “how’s that?”

Star looked at the dress in a mirror and began to laugh.

“What’s so funny?” he asked.

“Me,” she replied. “I look ridiculous.”

“No, you don’t. Do you actually think those people downstairs care about what you’re wearing? Well, think again, you have made them the happiest people on earth. Have you seen the smiles in that room? I haven’t seen that many happy people in one place in a long time. You’re their savior and you could have worn a loincloth for all they care. He reached out and put his arms around her, pulling her tight against him. “Now, will you do me the honour again of joining me downstairs he said extending his elbow for her to grab.

“I don’t know why you care so much about me,” she said grabbing his elbow.

“Because I see something in you. You’re hiding behind a wall that you have erected to protect yourself. I hope someday you can take that wall down so I can get to know the real you,” he said pushing the button in the elevator. He reached over and wiped her tears away before they entered the reception area. They spend another two hours talking to the guests. It was 9 p.m. as the crowd dwindled.

“Thank you again,” Gener said as he shook their hands and followed the guests out. “Don’t worry about the clean up. A crew will be here tomorrow for that.” He waved then flew off the overhang. Talon reached out and took Stars hand leading her back to the privacy of their home.

Band of Thieves

I started the third book in the series,  Adventures of Dylan Davis. Thanks to everyone who voted, the winning name of this book will be – Band of Thieves. I began this book in the Toronto Airport while waiting for our flight to Punta Cana. This book is about Jadin and her adventure as a dog walker. Jadin, Dylan, and Alex are sure to find more than they bargain for when they follow the car thieves.

This trip is more about R & R than writing, so once we are back home I am sure I will find more time to write. I hope all my family and friends are having a great week. See you on Saturday when we get home. Miss you all.

I would like to thank everyone that downloaded my latest book, Iron Bars. I am now anxiously waiting for reviews to come in. It was exciting to see that over 100 copies were downloaded and that there is that much interest in my writing. Some people who downloaded the second book also bought the first book in the series. It was downloaded in several different countries such as Canada, USA, United Kingdom, India, Germany and the Netherlands. I am looking forward to starting the next book in the series. The voting is in, (drumroll please) the next book will be called Band of Thieves. It received a whopping 50% of the votes. Thank you for voting!

Today is the last day to get your free copy of Iron Bars. It’s the second book in the Adventures of Dylan Davis Series. All ages will enjoy this adventure series. The first book in the series was called Secrets Beneath the Stone. If you don’t have a kindle reader, there is a free kindle reader app. It’s on the same page the book is on. I have it and it works great!
